About the Artist:
Ruth Squibb was born in Portsmouth, England, in 1928. Her father served with the Admiralty, which took the family to Hong Kong prior to World War II. They then moved to South Africa, and Squibb completed her schooling at Michaelis School of Art, UCT Cape Town. She was an Impressionistic painter who portrayed her subjects without any romanticisation. Squibb would work on the initial stages of her paintings en plein air and finish them later in her studio.
