About the Artist:
Pieter Millard was a South African artist whose life and work reflected a deep passion for faith, craftsmanship, and creative expression. Beginning his career as a millwright, Millard’s precision and technical skill would later inform his artistic practice. He pursued an academic career in drawing and went on to lecture at a Technical College, sharing his expertise and inspiring others through his teaching.
In addition to his artistic pursuits, Pieter completed his theological studies and served as a minister of religion in various Apostolic Faith Mission (AGS) assemblies throughout South Africa and South West Africa. His ministry work, combined with his devotion to art, became a unique reflection of his belief in creativity as a divine calling.
Throughout his life, Pieter taught a wide range of artistic styles, mediums, and techniques at art schools and private classes. During this time, he supported himself part-time through his art to pioneer a children’s ministry, a testament to his selflessness and commitment to nurturing both spiritual and creative growth in others.
By 1981, Pieter had established himself as a full-time artist. His travels through Europe and America exposed him to diverse artistic traditions, leading to the sale and exhibition of numerous works abroad. Over time, his paintings evolved toward a more contemporary, expressionistic style, characterized by vibrant color and emotional depth.
Pieter Millard’s art and life were guided by a profound love for his faith and his country. Remembered for his generosity, warmth, and willingness to share his knowledge, Pieter left a lasting legacy that continues to inspire those who encounter his work. He sadly passed away on 24 January 2017, leaving behind a rich and heartfelt body of art that speaks to the enduring power of creativity and conviction.
